Tetra Pak pours $80 million into China’s dairy, beverage

Tetra Pak is adding additional capacity in China—an extra eight billion packages per year—in the form of a new plant in Hohhot, China. Designed to meet the growing demand for dairy and beverage, the greenfield site is scheduled to start operation in the fourth quarter of 2008.

“This factory will primarily serve our customers in the north, freeing up capacity in our southern factories for customers in adjacent regions,” says Hudson Lee, Tetra Pak China managing director. “With a larger production footprint, we will offer faster delivery and increased flexibility for customers all over China.”

Tetra Pak estimates that the Chinese dairy industry will grow an average of 15 percent over the next five years.
