Tesco unveils sustainability plan

Tesco is focusing on biodegradable and recycled packaging, in an attempt to create a low-carbon economy. The announcement, which was made by CEO Sir Terry Leahy during a shareholders meeting, comes on the tails of Marks & Spencer’s decision to launch an aggressive attack on climate change.

As part of its plan, Tesco is trying to decrease the total C02 emissions of its operations. The company says it will develop a commonly-understood measure of the carbon footprint of the products it sells. Merchandise will be labeled so that consumers can easily compare the item’s carbon footprint.
