Singapore targets reduced packaging

Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA) has signed an agreement with five industry associations to reduce packaging in the food-and-beverage industry. Representing about 500 companies, two non-governmental organizations, four public-waste collectors and another 19 companies, the agreement emphasizes the role of packaging redesign and the increased use of recyclable materials. “We are striving towards ‘zero landfill’,” says NEA’s CEO, Lee Yuen Hee. The voluntary pact is for five years.
