Sidel’s NoBottle reshapes PET bottle packaging
Sidel has developed a curvy PET bottle for without the use of ribs. The new NoBottle features a light, shapely design—at 9.9 grams per 500-millimeter bottle—with a new technology called Flex. Based on flexibility and shape memory that allows packages to spring back to their original shape, Flex technology reportedly cuts down on bottle brittleness.
“We had to stop focusing on ways to brace bottles,” explains Franck Hancard, Packaging Solutions manager, “so we explored new avenues.”
The water market is expected to catch up with soft drinks by around 2010 due to the growth of small, single-serve containers (<750 ml). Estimates put it to expand by 5.7 percent annually between now and 2010.
