PACran bears health claim in Korea

Lallemand Health Ingredients and Decas Botanical Synergies (DBS) said the Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) has approved their clinically documented, PAC-standardized whole cranberry powder PACran as a health functional food. The companies said the product is the first cranberry ingredient to receive the approval and the authority to bear a urinary health claim – “by reducing bacteria adhesion on the urinary tract wall, it may help with urinary health”. PACran’s recommended daily dose is 500-1,000 mg/day.

PACran is made with PAC-rich early black cranberries and is standardized to a minimum 1.5% PACs, measured via the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analytical method. Its potential to support urinary tract health has been demonstrated in a double-blind, randomized clinical study in 2006. The daily consumption of 500 mg of PACran for 90 days was shown to signifi cantly reduce the presence of uropathogenic E. coli in patients.
