New DURO-TAK Transdermal Adhesive Enables Creation of Dispersed Drug Patch Formulations
A new DURO-TAK acrylic solution pressure sensitive adhesive designed to enable dispersed drug patch formulations has been developed by the Transdermal business group of National Adhesives.
DURO-TAK Elite 87-901A is supplied in a non-polar cyclohexane solvent and is targeted at specific drugs that have low solubility in non-polar solvents.
“The purpose of this product is to simplify the preparation of a dispersed drug-in-adhesive patch by reducing the potential for supersaturation. Cyclohexane was chosen for its low polarity, relatively low boiling point and good coating qualities,” said Dr Paul Foreman, Principal Scientist, National Adhesives.
It joins the family of Elite DURO-TAK products, which gives formulators non-reactive compositions with good wear properties.
National Adhesives has been an integral part of the transdermal market since its inception. As the global leader in acrylic polymers for transdermal drug delivery, National’s DURO-TAK pressure sensitive adhesives are approved in over 40 unique commercial patches marketed in the Americas, Australia, China, Europe, India, Japan and Korea.
