Mongolia builds Tiger Beer factory
Marking its first foray into Mongolia, Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) has opened a joint venture in the capital city Ulaanbaatar. Partnering with locally-based MCS Holdings, the $20 million brewery sits on five hectares, and is equipped with an annual production capacity of 120,000 hectoliters. Recent trends indicate that the economy—which grew 7.5 percent last year—is improving. Then there is the reported shift in preference for beers over vodka amongst younger adults. So overall, APB is optimistic. “The country is one of the most liberal and foreign investor-friendly economies in Asia,” explains Tiong Koh Poh, chief executive officer, APB.
