Laser technology ensures precise microperforation

Laser technology has made Multivac's innovative packaging concept FreshSAFE, in which microperforations are produced inline on normal plastic films in packaging machines, even more versatile and efficient.

The manufacturer of thermoform packaging machines and tray-sealers offers its customers the choice of creating the small perforations using needle rollers or by means of highly concentrated light beams.

The microperforated film features a significantly extended shelf life is achieved for fruit, vegetables and mushrooms with high levels of respiration.

Baked goods retain their crispness for longer, and the desired formation of white mould is possible on the surfaces of soft cheeses and Harzer cheeses.

The new method can produce microperforations with precision at any point of the utilized upper web, in the desired number, and with a defined diameter.

The concentrated light beams of the lasers produce microperforations on the upper web by melting the material.

Thereby smooth, clean edges are produced.

The perforation accuracy is high with perforation diameters of less than 0.1mm, as is commonplace in films for food packaging, and one microperforation is identical to another.

The use of laser technology permits labels to be placed anywhere on the packaging.

Microperforations are then simply omitted from the areas where the labels are to be paced.
