Hong Kong resumes processing of German poultry import applications

Hong Kong’s Centre for Food Safety (CFS) says it has resumed the processing of applications for importing poultry and poultry products from Germany except Saschen (Saxony).

The CFS suspended the processing of applications following confirmation of an outbreak of the highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 on a poultry farm in Saschen (Saxony) in October last year.

"In view of the control measures taken by Germany and the fact that there are no other cases of avian influenza reported, we decided to resume processing applications," a CFS spokesman said.

"We are monitoring the situation in Saschen (Saxony) and restrictions on imports from the province will remain for the time being."
