Frito-Lay puts green logo on SunChip bags as commitment to renewable energy
Frito-Lay said its SunChips line of snacks will feature the “Green-e” logo, a designation from the Center for Resource Solutions used with certified renewable energy certificates.
The convenient foods division of PepsiCo said the logo indicates its commitment towards supporting green energy and sustainable development. Among the steps it will take is the purchase of renewable energy certificates - property rights to the environmental benefits from generating electricity from renewable energy sources - to fully match of the electricity needed to produce SunChips snacks in the US.
The “Green-e” program is administered by the Center for Resource Solutions, which also works to increase the amount of renewable energy used world-wide.
Frito-Lay said it has also began installing solar concentrators in its Modesto, CA manufacturing facility, one of the facilities that produces SunChips snacks. The installation is expected to be completed in early 2008, the company said.
