Emerson launches wireless process solutions in Singapore
Emerson Process Management has released its Smart Wireless Solutions to help manufacturers collect previously-unreachable data in their manufacturing facilities. By imbedding this predictive intelligence throughout the plant, companies can monitor potential sources of shutdown, improve output, lower costs and make plant easier and safer to operate.
The company reports that field trials with several customers over the last three years have demonstrated greater than 99 percent network reliability and an installed cost that is as much as 90 percent lower than a wired equivalent.
To make it easy for customers, Emerson is introducing the SmartPack starter kit, consisting of SmartStart services; from five to 100 wireless Rosemount flow, pressure, level, or temperature transmitters; a wireless gateway; and an AMS Intelligent Device Manager software application for predictive diagnostic information access through the wireless gateway. The starter kit network reportedly establishes itself right out of the box, with no additional user input or setup.
“Wireless measurement technology will help users see and control more of what happens in their plants,” says Harry Forbes, an analyst with the ARC Advisory Group. “Besides huge savings in installation costs, this will drive fundamental process and automation improvements that are not possible with wired measurements.”
