ConAgra Foods recalls salmonella-contaminated peanut butter
ConAgra Foods is pulling jars of peanut butter from US shelves after salmonella was detected in samples manufactured at its Sylvester, GA plant.
“We are truly sorry for any harm that our peanut butter products may have caused,” explains Gary Rodkin, chief executive officer, ConAgra Foods. “Our immediate recall of 100 percent of our product was taken with the assumption that a link could be found between our peanut butter and the reported cases of salmonella. We are committed to taking all reasonable steps to remedy the situation.”
The company estimates a preliminary estimated charge of $50 million to $60 million, or approximately $0.06 to $0.08 per share, for the current quarter related to the peanut-butter recall.
