Camu Camu Beverage (Japan)
Coca Cola Minute Maid’s drink Camu Camu & Vitamin harnesses the power of Japan’s new superfruit camu camu. Red or purple and cherry-like in appearance, the fruit grows in the Amazon wetlands—most notably in Brazil and Peru—and is packed with the second-highest concentration of vitamin C content known. (Only the Australian billygoat plum has more.) Following the footsteps of the wildly-successful açai, in Japan camu camu has surged in popularity—so much so that demand has outstripped supply. (Part of the problem is that the trees need six years to be profi table; while harvesting of wild camu camu trees disrupts the ecosystem.) Camu Camu & Vitamin contains three-percent camu camu, providing 1,200 milligrams of vitamin C. A 500- milliliter bottle retails for $1.33.
