Burcon announces publication of Supertein toxicology study
Burcon NutraScience Corp announces the publication of a peer-reviewed manuscript describing a toxicology study of Supertein canola protein isolate.
The study was conducted to establish the safety of the ingredient in food and beverage applications and ultimately to support the process of obtaining generally recognized as safe (GRAS) status in the US.
The manuscript A 13-week dietary toxicity study in rats of a napin-rich canola protein isolate was published in the journal of Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology this year.
With the publication, Burcon and Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) will submit the GRAS notification for Supertein and Puratein to the US FDA within the quarter.
