Biofuels Woe
For a factory that uses biofuels, it may seem to many that it is being environmentally friendly. However, this does not sit well with Nestlé chairman Peter Brabeck-Letmathe when using biofuels means the destruction of forests. He said at the 2010 AGM that the company “is highly concerned about deforestation in Indonesia and other countries, and supports a moratorium on the destruction of rainforests.” “The company has stopped all purchase of palm oil from the Sinar Mas Company. This will continue as long as there is verifiable evidence of rainforest destruction by that company. Our past purchase of palm oil from Sinar Mas was limited to supplying our factories in Indonesia, and we have now identified alternative suppliers from whom we purchase.” Going green is not a fad after all. It is a mission with a cause.
