Ball: China drives beverage-can growth
Ball’s can sales in 2006 grew by double digits in China over 2005 levels. The Asia Pacific division is expected to enjoy future growth with annual sales projected to increase five to 10 percent in the near term.
Ball is currently undertaking selected capacity increases in its existing facilities in order to take advantage of the projected growth. Its operations include the manufacture of aluminum cans and ends in three plants located in the north, central and south regions. It also makes high-density plastic containers in two plants; and it participates in two joint ventures that manufacture aluminum cans and ends.
In the fourth quarter of 2006, Ball Asia Pacific acquired the minority interest ownership in the high-density plastic (HDP) container business for $4.6 million in cash and signed a long-term supply contract with the former minority owner.
In 2006, the packaging company reported global net earnings of $329.6 million.
