Archer Daniels Midland increases oilseed-crushing capacity
The Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) will increase its North-American oilseed-crushing capability through expansions at oilseed crushing plants in the US and Canada.
Five soybean-crushing plants and two canola-crushing plants will be expanded.
“Expanding our crush capacity will enable us to meet the increased demands for vegetable oil and oilseed proteins, driven by the world’s growing need for energy and food,” states Scott Fredericksen, president-North American Oilseed Processing.
Factors driving the increased demand for oilseed crushing include a growing population which increases the demand for food worldwide, rising global wealth which is changing protein and oils consumption, and increasing global energy needs and energy security concerns that promote biodiesel demand.
The expansions are scheduled to be completed in mid-2008.
