Lexington Pharmaceuticals Laboratories, LLC has announced that its unique method of producing sucralose has received independent confirmation from one of the industry's leading experts that the method is more environmentally friendly than other known processes.
The company believes it will be less expensive to produce.
Todd Lowary, PhD, professor at the University of Alberta and an organic chemist familiar with current patents regarding the process technology by Tate & Lyle, has reviewed Lexington's intellectual property.
He says: "In my opinion, Lexington's procedure represents a significant improvement over any process that I have reviewed in the Tate & Lyle patent portfolio, not only in terms of cost, but also toxicity".
"I view what Lexington is doing as 'greener' chemistry than what's in the patent literature."

The product is expected to be introduced in the table top sweetener called Nevella, manufactured and distributed by Heartland Sweeteners, LLC.
The company is working with global partners to manufacture domestically in the US and at other sites around the world under pharmaceutical GMP conditions.
