Gelatine for joints

Dated: 1 May 2008

Weak joints now have a new help. Gelita, the gelatine and collagen hydrolysate giant, has launched a new therapeutic agent that can counter the effects of the degenerative joint diseases like osteoarthritis. Formulated to aid cartilage metabolism, Fortigel is useful in the treatment of joint problems. Ageing, sporting injuries, genetics and poor health conditions can lead to cartilage wear and tear. While the process of osteoarthritis is often irreversible, medical treatments can reduce pain and improve joint function.

Besides counteracting the effects of osteoarthritis, Fortigel also aids in pain relief and treatment, a fact that clinical studies have confirmed, says Gelita. The company is taking their newest functional ingredient world over, launching it at Food Ingredients China in March and at Vitafoods in Geneva in May. “We are pushing the health applications of gelatine in the Asia-Pacifi c region and worldwide target markets,” says Oliver Wolf, head of corporate communicates at Gelita in Germany. A move towards functional food ingredients, and establishing a brand consciousness by differentiating Gelita’s gelatine products from other commodity-type offerings are among the most pertinent “restructuring issues” for the company currently, says Wolf. Providing more than just a generic, “white powder” gelatine, Gelita aims to add “complete solutions” for customers to complement its product line.
