Brewing strong in Vietnam

Dated: 1 May 2008

Asia Pacific Breweries announced expanded production facilities at its Hatay Brewery, in line with its growth ambitions in Vietnam. Located north of Hanoi, the plant, which opened in 2003 with a capacity of 30 million, can now produce up to 46 million liters, or a 50 percent increase. Upgrading was to the tune of US$1 million, but this is little in investment terms for a market which APB says has been a key contributor to its Indochina sales. The region racked in APB’s highest profit in FY 2007, with Vietnam alone contributing to almost half of the company’s profit before tax in Indochina. The Hatay plant is one of fi ve breweries that APB operates in Vietnam, where its brewing capacity totals four million liters. APB holds exclusive rights to the Tiger and Heineken brand names in Vietnam and runs one brewery each in Cambodia and Laos.
