Study: Americans ready to dine on authentic Singaporean fare

Dated: 1 April 2008

More than 50 percent of Americans, ages 18-44, are ready to dine on Singaporean staples like Singapore chili crab, Hainanese chicken rice, and laksa noodles. These finding are based on a survey of 1,000 US consumers conducted by International Communications Research (ICR) for International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, the government trade and export promotion agency. Other results suggested that authentically-prepared Asian dishes were preferred 47 percent to 42 percent over Westernized versions. The majority of respondents (63.7 percent) stated that they were willing to pay USD $5.99 for a pre-packaged Singaporean meal that required adding chicken, beef or fish to the recipe for an entree that would serve four.
