“The scientists resisted being drawn into speculation on the likely taste of a T-rex drumstick.”

The next time you need a new idea, look at nature. Think the idea is bunk? Beverage manufacturers consider this. Nectar-feeding bats burn sugar faster than any other mammal on Earth—and they do it three times faster than top-class athletes.

How about these staggering facts: bats make use of the sugar they drink for their metabolism within minutes after drinking it, and after less than half an hour they fuel 100 percent their metabolism from this source. (In comparison, athletes fuel up to 30 percent of their metabolism directly from power drinks.)

The reason? Bats feed on floral nectars that contain simple sugars such as sucrose, glucose and fructose. Imagine if you could somehow make consumers do the same.

Get out of the office (and contribute to sustainability) before the region’s fauna (and your potential source of inspiration) goes extinct.

PS South-East Asia boasts some of the most diverse and spectacular wildlife in the world.
