French wineries ride on booming Asian market with Wine For Asia

French wine exports to Singapore jumped by almost half last year, making this more than three times the value of French wine exports to China.

French wine exports to Singapore jumped by 43 percent to US$722 million (€360 million) in 2006, reported Christine Gilguy, deputy chief editor of French commerce magazine, Le MOCI, at the recent Vinexpo.

This also gives the city-state the highest average import value of wine in the world. At US$16 per litre, this is three times higher than India, 13 times higher than China and 14 times higher than France.

The significance of Singapore to French wine exports, has therefore made Wine For Asia 2007 a natural platform for the French wineries to reach out to the Asian wine market.

Held at the Singapore Expo from October 25 to 27, it will see the addition of a French national pavilion that will represent a wide variety of wines from the top of the range to value-for-money.

  Ahold downgraded by S&P
