Nestlé has opened a milk factory in China to help the company cope with the increasing consumer demand for its milk products. The state-of-the-art factory is situated in the Chinese Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, an area with high-quality natural grassland, the company said in a statement.
Nestlé currently buys fresh milk from some 40,000 Chinese farmers. The Swiss-based company said it has also provided daily technical assistance to the farmers over the last 20 years, helping them to increase the quality, quantity and efficiency of their fresh milk production.
The Nestlé Group began investing in China two decades ago and has opened 21 factories in 18 different sites across the country, employing about 13,000 people. In 2006, Nestlé had sales of $1.5 billion in China.
