Its Breyers Light ice cream is double churned – a process that reportedly reduces fat and calories, while retaining texture and taste. The company which also makes the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream range says that it uses natural ingredients to meet consumer demand. The premium light ice cream is available in seven different flavours, including Mint Chocolate and Butter Pecan. It comes in 56oz (1.5kg) containers and retails at US$5.00 each.
Compact Coffee Discs

If you have trouble brewing coffee in the morning, you’re in luck. The new Tassimo system www.tassimo.com can automatically calculate the water quantity, time and temperature needed to brew your favourite drink. It uses ‘T-Discs’ or sealed single servings of coffee, tea, hot chocolate or milk. The drink is brewed directly in the T-Disc, and then poured into your cup. The Tassimo system air-purges all drips and wastage. Kraft says the system is protected by more than 20 patent applications. The brewing system is currently available in the UK, France and Switzerland.
Making Sense Of Ripening Fruits

Consumers want fresh produce. And now ripeSense www.ripesense.com has reportedly developed the world’s first ‘smart’ packaging that can tell when pears are ripe. A sensor label detects aroma compounds given off by the fruit. When the label turns red, the fruit is crisp but unripe. When it turns yellow, the fruit is juicy and ripe. The sensor label is applied inside a clear, recyclable clamshell pack that is moulded to protect fruit and trap aromas. ripeSense is a subsidiary of Jenkins Group www.jenkinsgroup. co.nz. It developed the label in partnership with scientists from HortResearch www.hortresearch.co.nz. Similar sensors for kiwifruit, melon, mango, avocado and stone fruit are also being developed.

The organic and non-GMO sauces are made from carrots, apples and beetroot. And they’re free from alkaloids–naturally occurring compounds that affect nerve and muscle functions–found in tomatoes, potatoes and chilli peppers. Soma Foods says Nomato is great for people trying to quit smoking–traces of nicotine found in tomatoes can reportedly re-trigger cigarette addiction. The Nomata Ketchup comes in a 340 g glass bottle. Soma Foods also manufactures a Nomato baked beans and pasta sauce range.
